The economy looks bleak.
The future is uncertain.
The situation at hand doesn't need another quick fix.
Sounds like there's a need for leadership.
But there is always a need for leadership.
What kind of leader is needed during the difficulties?
The same kind of leader that was needed during the good times, the prosperous times, and the times when everything seemed to flow smoothly.
Poor leadership will often be hidden during good times. But not for long. Poor leadership will lead to difficult times.
Good leadership is still necessary when times are good. And when the situation turns for the worse, good leadership will help a group or team navigate through.
Don't think for a moment that just because times are good strong leadership isn't necessary. It's always necessary. And waiting until times turn bad might just be a little too late to try and figure out exactly what kind of leader you are.
Thus, in good times or bad, demonstrate the kind of leadership where:
+ leading yourself first matters
+ developing influence matters
+ making a difference matters
+ communicating clearly matters
+ getting others involved matters
(the five core capacities in the Student Leadership Backpack)
