I came across this leadership insight today:
A smart leader will ask for help and receive input when making a decision. But once the decision is made, the leader needs to take the responsibility for it.
Some student leaders have the mindset that it's a bad thing to ask for help throughout a decision making process. But that couldn't be farther from the truth. A good decision will come with the help of good advice.
Get some trusted advisors around you.
But once the decision is made, the leader needs to own it.
Oftentimes, a leader will make a decision on her own and then blame others when something goes wrong. People don't follow that type of leader for very long.
Are there some decisions that you need some assistance with?
Who can you trust to guide you toward a good decision?
A great question to ask: "What would you do if you were in my situation?"
Good leadership involves making good decisions and managing those decisions once they're made.
