I'm happy to point you to a great leadership resource from the Center for Creative Leadership. It is their monthly e-Newsletter entitled Leading Effectively. As you can see, I keep a constant link to the e-Newsletter on my lefthand column of this blog.
This free e-Newsletter highlights a lot of the amazing research and resources that this organization puts together. My favorite book from them is the Handbook of Leadership Development. I highly recommend it.
I was very excited to see the contents of this month's Leading Effectively. I felt like it deserved it's own post! The subject matter deals with the way leadership is changing. While that is no surprise to many of us, this material provides some valuable insights into the shifting priorities that leadership is taking.
Quoting from the opening article, Complex Challenges and The New Leadership, the author writes:
Data from the CNL (Changing Nature of Leadership) project led to this conclusion: Leadership is changing and with change comes the rise of a new leadership skill set. The challenges leaders are facing go beyond their individual capabilities and create a demand for interdependent, boundary-spanning work.
"Leaders today need to create an environment where others can help them succeed. The lone wolf approach to leadership is a liability," says Martin (André Martin, a senior associate at CCL and lead researcher of the Changing Nature of Leadership (CNL) project).
What is most beneficial from this article is the chart that shows what leadership priorities looked like in 2002 and how those priorities will shift in the future.
Here is the listing of this month's articles from Leading Effectively:
• The Changing Nature of Leadership
• Learning to Lead (Again)
• What's Driving The New Leadership?
• Leading Effectively: A Collective Approach
• Navigating Complex Challenges: Think "Kaleidoscope"
• Strengths, Weaknesses and Leader Development Poll Results
You can access this month's Leading Effectively e-Newsletter here.
There is so much leadership information available. I appreciate you writing about the newsletter as I rely more and more on the recommendations of people who I follow and appreciate. I also like the overall redesign of your blog. You pack a lot in yet also leave a lot of white space. So often I read blogs through my bloglines reader --- it is good to visit the actual blog site every so often. Take care and carry on caring in 2006!
