Leadership: The Dangerous Act

Share

Came across a couple of quotes I had written down a couple years ago by author, Ronald A Heifetz.  I've read a couple of his outstanding books, Leadership on the Line and Leadership Without Easy Answers.  Both of them provide a practical approach to leadership, especially leadership in the midst of crisis (which is when leadership is most necessary).  Here's the quotes:

Leadership is a long, difficult, and ultimately dangerous process.  It is through an emergence of multiple experiments that progress is made.  To lead, authority figures must maintain a manageable level of disequilibrium to encourage and enable others to take on adaptive challenges.

To act outside the narrow confines of your job description when progress requires it lies close to the heart of leadership, and to its danger.
